We capped off our time in Beijing with a short but unforgettable visit to Universal Studios Beijing—China’s newest theme park and one of the most impressive Universal parks in the world. Though we only had about four hours to explore before catching a redeye flight, we packed in a morning full of movie magic, delicious snacks, and immersive worlds.

Universal Beijing is located in Tongzhou District, just outside central Beijing. Luckily, it’s easy to reach by subway.

🏰 What to Expect Inside the Park
Universal Studios Beijing is massive, clean, and beautifully designed. It’s split into seven immersive zones, each themed after major Universal IPs and films:
1. Kung Fu Panda Land of Awesomeness
This was one of our favorite areas—designed like the Valley of Peace, it’s entirely indoors and incredibly well-themed. With Chinese architecture, lanterns, and nods to the films everywhere, it’s a peaceful, whimsical space perfect for younger visitors or just chilling out of the sun.
2. Minion Land
Bright, loud, and so much fun! Even if you don’t do the rides, the area is packed with photo ops and themed food. Definitely a favorite for families.
3. Hollywood Boulevard
This is the entrance area, filled with shops, snacks, and live entertainment. Great for getting in the movie mood right off the bat.
4. Transformers Metrobase
We didn’t do thrill rides on this visit, but this area is home to Transformers: The Ride—a big draw for action fans. Still, it’s worth walking through for the impressive futuristic design and robot displays.
5. Jurassic World Isla Nublar
Another high-energy zone filled with lush jungle vibes and dinos. We skipped the rides but loved the atmosphere and detailed theming.
6. The Wizarding World of Harry Potter
Even with limited time in the park, we couldn’t skip this iconic area—and it totally delivered on the magic. From the snow-dusted rooftops of Hogsmeade to the towering spires of Hogwarts Castle, the theming was spot-on and full of little details that made the world feel real.
We didn’t do any thrill rides, but just walking through the village was an experience in itself. We grabbed a warm Hogwarts meat pie for lunch and, of course, had to try the famous Butterbeer—sweet, frothy, and everything we hoped it would be. It’s the kind of spot where even if you’re not riding anything, you’re still immersed in the magic just by being there.
If you’re a Harry Potter fan, this part of Universal Beijing is a can’t-miss.
7. WaterWorld
Based on the classic stunt show, this area features a live-action performance filled with water effects and explosions. Check the daily schedule for showtimes.

You’ll be walking a lot—even just strolling the zones easily adds up to several kilometers.
✔️ Weather matters
Most areas are outdoors, except for Kung Fu Panda Land. Bring an umbrella if rain is forecasted and dress for the season.
😷 Our Experience: A Bit Short but Still Magical
We originally planned to spend most of the day at the park, but about four hours in, Jor-El started feeling unwell, so we made the call to head back to the hotel early to rest before our overnight flight.
Even with just a half-day visit, we had an amazing time. Universal Studios Beijing is visually stunning, incredibly well-organized, and great even if you’re not doing rides. You can truly enjoy the experience just by walking around, trying snacks, and soaking in the themed worlds.
