We wandered off West Nanjing Road and stepped straight into a pink daydream: Butterful & Creamorous × Charlotte Tilbury. Soft blush walls, gold trim, glossy cases stacked with jumbo pastries, the whole space feels like dessert dressed as couture.
I ordered a pistachio pastry and a fresh-strawberry beauty for my son with drinks; both were as over-the-top as the décor. A sweet local even handed me a Charlotte Tilbury eye-cream sample with purchase (freebies happen, never hurts to smile). It’s an easy must-visit if you love cafés with both taste and looks.
If you’re only in Shanghai for a few days, this café stop fits perfectly into a packed itinerary like my 3 Days in Shanghai on the 240-Hour Visa-Free Policy itinerary and tips, because it’s quick, central, and easy to pair with sightseeing.

Where it is (and how to get there without thinking)
Shanghai’s trains are simple once you get the hang of them, and I break it down step-by-step in Navigating the Shanghai Metro: A Complete Guide for First-Time Visitors.
The café sits along Wujiang Road, just off Nanjing West Road Station, so close you can be unwrapping a pastry before your metro map reloads. Take Lines 2/12/13 → Nanjing West Road, and use Exit 4 (or nearby exits) for the shortest walk; the storefronts along Wujiang are famously photogenic and packed with food.
Helpful address pin: many listings cite No. 269 Wujiang Road, Jing’an District (you’ll also see the collab mentioned at this address in recent café roundups).
If this is your first time in the city, this area is also close to some of the most central places to explore in Shanghai, including People’s Park near People’s Square, which ended up being one of our favorite easy first stops in the city.

What’s the deal with the Charlotte Tilbury collab?
This location leans into a co-branded, pink-on-pink aesthetic, think beauty-counter glam meets viral two-storey bakery vibes. Social posts and recent café guides call out the CT × Butterful tie-in here on Wujiang Road, and yes, it photographs exactly like you expect.

When to go, lines, and hours
It’s popular, expect queues at peak times (late mornings, weekends, holidays). Many recent write-ups cite opening around 10:00 and running into the evening (~21:00–22:00), but hours can shift by branch and season; check the door or the brand’s latest post the day you go.
Line tip: If you see a rope line, one person can hold the spot while another scouts seats. Order first; seating usually turns over quickly.

What to order (and how to play it)
Butterful & Creamorous is known for maximalist pastries, towering napoleons, fruit-topped tarts, cruffin-style beauties, and laminated croissants the size of your forearm. At the CT collab space, expect signature berry cakes, rich pistachio bakes, and seasonal specials alongside espresso and tea drinks (iced looks great in photos, not going to lie).
Recent café roundups highlight the berry napoleon and raspberry tart as crowd-pleasers if you want a second pick.

Our order: pistachio pastry, fresh strawberry pastry, and drinks. 10/10 for the flaky layers and the fruit.
Allergy/diet note: Labels skew in Chinese/English, double-check nuts, dairy, gelatin if you have restrictions.

Prices & payment
Plan on premium-café pricing (pastries commonly ¥35–¥80+, whole cakes and limited editions higher). Mobile payments rule; visitors can usually scan and pay with WeChat Pay or Alipay using a linked international card, set it up before you land so checkout is painless. (Cashiers can run cards in a pinch, but QR is smoother.)

Photo tips (because you will take photos)
- Best light: late morning or mid-afternoon for soft interior light; evenings give moodier gold/pink tones.
- Angles: shoot the pastry cases low and close, then step back for the pink seating + gold accents.
- Crowds: grab your pastry first, then circle back for the “empty” corner shot during a seat turnover (it happens every few minutes).

Make it a mini-route (very walkable)
Start: Jing’an Temple or Nanjing West Road shopping → stroll Wujiang Road food street → Butterful & Creamorous × Charlotte Tilbury for pastry + coffee → continue to West Nanjing Road malls or hop one station east to People’s Square. If you want a low-key reset after the shopping streets, walk or ride one stop over to Shanghai People’s Park, which is a perfect first-day “arrive softly” spot in the middle of the city.
Wujiang Road itself is a destination, lined with snacks, cafés, and neon after dark.
If you start this route at Jing’an Temple, Shanghai: a golden oasis in the city, you get that calm, historical contrast before stepping back into the shopping and café energy on West Nanjing Road.
If you’re continuing your day into Old Shanghai, the best next stop is Yuyuan Old Street: where classical Shanghai spills into snacks, steam, and neon, especially if you want street food and that lantern-lit vibe.
And if you want the calmer version of that same area first, do Yuyuan Garden, Shanghai: classical calm meets city buzz before the snack lanes, because the garden-to-bazaar transition is part of the fun.

Why Butterful & Creamorous Became So Popular
Butterful & Creamorous has become one of the most photographed bakeries in Shanghai thanks to its oversized pastries and stylish interiors. The collaboration with the British beauty brand Charlotte Tilbury created a pink themed café space that blends beauty branding with a European style bakery experience, making it especially popular with visitors looking for aesthetic cafés.
China is incredibly safe for travelers, but I still always travel with SafetyWing travel insurance in case of things like flight delays, illness, or lost luggage while moving between countries.
