If you visit Jordan, one of the highlights of the trip will be stopping by the Dead Sea. I mean we have read about it, watched info about it on TV and more. This is such an amazing experience. You can visit the Dead Sea in Jordan or Israel. Both countries have the salty lake as a major tourist attraction. The Dead Sea, located in the Jordan Valley and 55 km southeast of Amman
After an amazing time in the Wadi Rum Desert, we jumped into the rental car and I drove over 4 hours to our Dead Sea Resort, the lowest point on earth, for an unforgettable experience. What an experience that was. I took a dip in the Dead sea, covered my body in dead sea mud, baked in the sun then took another dip to wash it all off.
The lake is shared by Israel and the Palestinian Territories on the western side and Jordan on the east.
It was so weird and crazy. The feeling of the water because of the salt content. It didn't even feel like water anymore. You float, you don't even have to try or know-how, the salt content (34%) causes you to just, float. It was trippy and amazing to be IN THE DEAD SEA!
There are a few resorts where you can stay. We stayed at Ramada, it was one of the least expensive when we went. It is old, tired and seen its best days but it worked. We were upgraded to a family room so we had two rooms and 2 beds which was awesome.
The resort was only a few mins walk to the sea and also provided a shuttle to take you there if you required. We stayed a night here also, as all we wanted to do was take a dip in the famous Dead Sea.
Know before you go.
Do not shave before going in. The salt content in the water will make you realize quickly how bad of an idea that was. Small cuts and scrapes will sting horribly too.
Wear water shoes as the bottom can be rocky and abrasive from salt deposits and mud.
Do not splash or dive in. Again, salt water, your eyes, the worst idea ever.
I wore a black bathing suit. Wear something you don't mind getting stained or wear black, The Mud will stain.
When I went in the guys at the site mentioned to only stay in 10-15 mins max.
Spread the mud all over. There are healing minerals in the mud and water. It left my skin feeling ultra smooth and silky.
Be sure stay hydrated with fresh water since you'll be out in the hot sun.
Want to visit the Dead Sea with out staying at a resort?
Getting there
Rent a car like I did. It was inexpensive and like I stated in the Jordan, all you need to know post it was easy to drive around and I had no issues at all. It’s a straightforward drive so just jump in and go dor the day.
Taxis are everywhere. You can hail a cab or use Uber to get a ride there. It oudl be best to hire a car for the day. Be sure to agree on a rate up front.
There are day tours to the Dead Sea daily. If you favor a tour with a group over going by yourself this is an option to look into.
The JETT bus. This is another way to get to the Dead Sea. You can grab tickets from Amman, departing from the JETT station around 8.30/9 depending on the station you choose and Return from the Dead Sea to Amman at 17:00. This option will cost you 15 JD. This route runs daily. They even have the option of swimming and a lunch at Ramada hotel for 35 JD or Crowne Plaza for 45 JD if you wanted to do a package deal. You can find more details on their website jtt.com.jo
Amman Beach – Amman Beach is one of the public beaches on the coast of the Dead Sea. There is however an 8JD entrance fee for Dead Sea access only and a 12JD for access to the pool. It is the most popular alternative if you are typing to visit for a day from Amman or Aquaba as it has tons of facilities available including showers, changing rooms, washrooms, and a few souvenir stores.
O Beach – this is more luxurious and the most beautiful public beach. The entrance fee is 20JD without lunch and 30JD with lunch included. Both fees include access to all the facilities you can use and enjoy. This beach is popular so be ready for the crowds.
The Dead Sea was one of the highlights on our Jordan stop. Honestly, all of Jordan was an amazing experience, one I would do over again and again.
